Christmas

I have noticed that December/Christmas has brought out the blogger!!!! I can't even keep up in my google reader. Almost everyone I read posts everyday or even twice a day. This has made my blogging lack because after I read everyone elses...I am to tired to write one of my own. If I don't work tomorrow I want to do a very in depth post about something thought provoking. (This is not a promise...we well see how I feel tomorrow)

Wedding Dresses
Every year (in January) I model in the "Country Bride" Fashion show.
First some background:
Country Bride is the name of a wedding dress shop here in Peoria. (Even though it is called country bride it is not country....you actually can get almost any dress designer in magazines here ((well not like Vera Wang or anything)) but any of the moderate priced ones) This is the store I bought my dress from. Well, anyways, they have asked me to model wedding dresses in their bridal show and I have for 3 years now. The show is at the Pere Marquette hotel which the the oldest, most historic, most elegant hotel in Peoria. They reserve two ballrooms and one has vendors set up and the other has this huge runway and lots of decorations and hundreds and hundreds of chairs. People come early to reserve their seats.
OK-so Thursday I had this years dress fittings to see what dresses I am wearing in the show and there is good news and bad news about that fitting.
Good news-THE FIRST DRESS I WILL WEAR DOWN THE RUNAWAY IS MY WEDDING DRESS (WELL THE EXACT SAME ONE-MINE IS PERSERVED IN A SPECIAL BOX, BUT THEIR SAMPLE OF MY EXACT DRESS)!!!!!!!!!! YAY, SO FUN TO WEAR IT AGAIN.
*the next three are really pretty ones that I am so happy about.....really beautiful ones. One is gorgouse with this tiffany blue sash around the waist, one has some red across the bust and down the back, and the fourth one is this beautiful white ballgown.
ok-----
the Bad news-the last one I have to wear is TOTALLY 80'S I mean really ugly and I am kinda embarrassed to wear it. higher collar, shoulders, and long sleeves. I think my fitter saw it in my face when I had it on on Thursday. She said they have a lot of religious brides who need modest dresses and others who want modest dress. But, I feel kinda funny in it. I mean it is really 80's
*the second bad news is three of my five have corset backs and this is a real pain in the butt to dress quickly in. I am going to have to leave the stage and sprint to the dressing room to get tied into them to get right back in line in the correct number. I will probably be sweating. Yikes!!!

1st Party
Just got back from Christmas Party number 1. My mom's side of the family throws a Christmas party every year on the first Sunday of December. We actually rent out an Elementary school Cafeteria and Gym. So of course we lay out the food in the cafeteria line and then after eating all the kids have the gym to play in. We usually have basketballs, rubber balls, and jump ropes. The gym also has a stage and when I was little my cousins and I would sing and dance on the stage. It really is a great memory.

Christmas Decor part 2
I love my ornaments and wanted to do a post on the story behind them. Before I start I wanted to let you know how I acquired most of these. As I was growing up, my mom gave us three kids an ornament every year. Now as an 8, 9, 10, etc year old it was the most boring present under the tree. I thought "great? How am I going to play with this." It also continued through high (my selfish thoughts..I mean) Then after college, when I got my first home (rental house that is), and I bought a tree....my mom brought my box of ornaments over to put on my tree. I then realized how happy I was that I got those ornaments every year because now I have a tree full of wonderful expensive ornaments instead of crappy cheap ones that I ran to the dollar store to get to fill a tree. I now feel like complete sh*t (pardon) that I was so selfish growing up over this (now, I never told my mom this...I just thought it) I am now so grateful that she did this and I will do the same for my children. I have a tree full of wonderful Hallmark, Bergner's, Macy's, etc ornaments instead of dollar-store plastic ones:
This is a polar bear shopper (hehe) notice the purse and gift (if you can it is blurry) I got this one in high school from my mom when my shopping addiction started! (Hallmark)
This one I got from my husband's uncle. He does mission trips every year and this ornament came from Jerusalem. I believe it was made out of olive tree wood. I could be wrong on that...but it is for sure from Jerusalem. You might not see the carving real well, but it is the manager with Mary kneeling at the side.
This is one from my mom from when I was a cheerleader...it is a girl mouse sitting on top of a locker in a cheerleader outfit and pom poms. It is Hallmark.

This is a teacher ornament that my mom gave me when I graduate with my Bachlor's in Elementary Ed. It is a bag full of notebooks, rulers, scissors, pencils, etc, etc. There is also a saying on the side about how teacher's are inspirational. (Hallmark Ornament)

This is a little Mouse fishing from a Popsicle. I got this when I was younger. (Hallmark)

This one came from Bergner's and it is by far the most breakable. The hat and scarves and letters are fuzzy.

This one is from last year. (From Macy's) the pic does not do it justice. It is beautiful and sparkly.

This one I love because my name is the bottom of the snowman. I forgot to mention in the opening of this post....that MOST of my ornaments from my childhood are personalized. This is the only one of posted to this post....because I have so many that I needed to narrow it down, but MOST are personalized. I had to mention this for one of the following ornaments.

Ok, this is why I had to mention that most are personalized. Because MOST are personalized my tree is full of ornaments that have MELISSA written on them. Well two years ago my husband made a quiet comment on how the tree says Melissa all over it. (He might of felt that he wasn't represented. ) So last year (I never found a place to personalize it) but I bought him this one. It is a UofI basketball ornament (his favorite college basketball team) so this one is his.

This one I bought at a garage sale this summer for $.50. There is glitter on it, but you can't tell from the picture. It is also the biggest one on the tree. It is a real bell so if you shake it, it jingles.
This is my favorite. I bought it myself. It is tinkerbell and it is a Hallmark ornament.

Christmas Decorating
Decorated for Christmas last night. I don't like to decorate for Christmas until December. Here are some of the decorations:

I got this idea from another blog. I sorta messed up on it. One of the ornaments broke so I hot glued it to the finished product and now it sticks out. I bet you can figure out which one is the broken one.

This one has real bells on it...so it Jingles.

I love this oven mitt. It makes baking Christmas cookies that much more fun.

I got this at my husbands family Christmas party last year.

This marshmallow looking snowman is the first Christmas decoration that I bought that wasn't a hand me down. I bought it the first Christmas I had my own place to decorate.

I would like a new Christmas skirt. I am going to wait until after Christmas to see if I can get a good deal on one. This one feels like felt (it is). I want a bigger, richer feeling tree skirt.
