My dog has been licking his 2 front paws lately. He has been licking the same spot so much that he has licked it raw. One paw is worse than the other. He has licked a patch of fur clean off. We went to the vet last month and all she said is that it might be mites. She ordered a skin scrape and we did that and it was negative for mites. That is really all she said. I need a new Vet asap. However, this one is so close and all other ones are such a far drive....but I need to buck up and go because she sucks!!!!!!!!!!!
So basically my vet is google. Just through google my guess is that he has acral lick granuloma. That is basically that he licks the same spot over and over again. (common in labs) This just started this month and he is 3 and 1/2 years old. The causes are allergies (food), allergies in the air, or a psychological anxiety feeling. Well he has been on the same food forever, so I don't think it is that. It is air borne allergies or psychological. However, at 3 1/2 years old it just started. In the past he has had watery eyes in the spring and fall, but nothing out of control. Here are some new things that have happened:
new leather couch?????????????????
I have summers off so I just went back to parttime work??????????????????
We just got new neighbors who have 2 dogs and we have been living over 3 years with vacant houses on both sides of us. (one house, the lady is in a nursing home and the son won't sell until she is no longer with us...the other one the lady died and her three children fought over it for 5 years....one sister just bought the other 2 out so she has allowed her son and girlfriend to move in)
so new couch, back to work, new neighbor anxiety, something else?????????
Well, I don't want to put a cone around his neck just yet, so I bought some of the bitter spray. I sprayed it on his paws and he is suppose to lick it, have it taste bad, and never do it again. So lets see how that works.
The rest of today, I spent shopping for my hubby's birthday which is next Thursday.
I also am going through our picture CD (remember when we got some pictures taken???) I want to submit an order soon. So, I need to pick my favorites.

My poor dog chews on her feet constantly too. Our vet thinks it's probably allergies. He said that pups can develop new allergies, so it could be the food. We are going to have to switch if her current round of meds doesn't clear the problem. Good luck finding what's bothering him!
