Ok,
I am throwing this out into cyber world and maybe someone who knows what they are talking about can answer some questions.
I am in the market for a camera....I want a nice one....I have been researching and these are some loose ends I need answered:
(I want an SLR not a point and shoot)
How many point auto focus is good? It the more the better? Or is too much bad some how? I have seen cameras with 9 and 11 point focus....is 11 the way to go?
What does a UV lens filter do? Do I need it?
ISO? What do I need? I have seen 1600 and 6400 on the cameras I have on my list....is it very important to have 6400?
What is the difference between DSLR and SLR?
What can you tell me about menu retouch built into the camera?
Would you suggest Nikon or Canon?

Oh gosh ... I'm flattered you even asked, but I have no idea to most of these questions and I'm so embarrassed.
ReplyDeleteWe got the Canon Rebel xsi. I love it. I've had several Canon cameras and loved them all; my brother had a Nikon and sold it to get a Canon. But from what I hear they're both great, so it's kind of personal preference. One thing that WAS great about buying our Canon, though, is that a lot of friends have Canons as well so we can swap lenses. If you have other camera-owning friends that might be a fun thing to check out!
We got UV filters for like ... three bucks on eBay, and we just screw them to whatever lens we're using. I like them not necessarily because I can tell the difference in quality (I totally can't) but because they also protect the (much more expensive) lenses. So I'd say that was a great investment.
I'm pretty sure DSLR vs SLR is just that D is digital? Is that right?
Do you read That Wife? She has GREAT camera/photography tips (http://thatwifeblog.com/tag/photo/) and there are some where she talks about the equipment she uses and stuff. I would totally recommend checking that.
How exciting though! :) Can't wait to see the pictures you take with it!
